Reaching doubters and sceptics in Cambridge
Rev Andrew Fellows writes:
Three years ago, we began as Panton Street Church, a small group dedicated to creating a welcoming space for honest questions. We felt called to the mission of reaching doubters and sceptics in Cambridge with the truth of the gospel. We also felt the growing need to deepen our discipleship by bringing the Bible into a conversation with cultural trends. We are so grateful to the Lord for the joy of seeing people come to faith, and young Christians growing in the faith.
As we set off as an independent congregation, we were clear that our church was looking for a home. It is with huge delight that this desire and prayer have been fulfilled in our affiliation with ACE. That’s why October 20 was such a significant milestone for our little congregation.
Bishop Ian Ferguson visited to preside over a service that included three significant ceremonies. First, Andrew Fellows was ordained as a deacon in ACE. This was then followed by the inauguration of St. Thomas’ Cambridge into ACE. This new name was inspired by our commitment to those who doubt and better reflects our Anglican identity. Finally, Andrew was instituted as the minister of St. Thomas’, after which we celebrated communion together.
The occasion was joyful and attended by many visitors. For our congregants, it was a real boost of encouragement. Having reached this milestone, we sense a wonderful foundation to build on. As we are still in the early stages of a church start-up, there is the fragility that comes with small numbers and not enough hands to do the work we are called to.
We are praying for families to join and are presently in the process of raising funds to build a classroom for children’s work. For those interested in learning more about us, our new website is www.stthomascambridge.org.
